Position: Tamper and Ballast Regulator Operator Job Type: Full-time Pay: $34.00-$43.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week Job description About Cariboo: Since inception in 2000, Cariboo Rail has been a service provider focused on providing rail infrastructure maintenance and construction solutions. Responsibilities: * Operate railroad equipment on and off-track to support maintenance-of-way activities, and support the safe operation of the rail network. * Maintain railway infrastructure, including rail yards, culverts & bridges, rail track. * Safely drive company vehicles to transport fuel and tools to the jobsite or railroad equipment * Support the construction of new railway infrastructure • As an Operator, you will work as part of a team regulating track ballast, operating track tampers and other equipment as required. * Able to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of Tamper/Ballast Regulator operations, track alignment, and inspection. * Operate machines and equipment such as sleeper sliders, anchors, rail lifters, drag drills, drag diggers, rail saws and tie-bar cranes to lay, maintain, repair and align railway tracks to transfer, spread, level and tamp ballast around ties and rails and to clear snow from tracks * Clean and make minor repairs to machines and equipment * Patrol assigned track sections to identify and report damaged or broken track * Perform other track maintenance duties as directed. * Responsible to conduct mechanical & safety inspections as required and perform necessary maintenance and repairs • Responsible for various administrative tasks such as completing time cards, safety documents, and production reports; * Perform general labour with crew as required * Responsible to ensure compliance to all Cariboo and customer policies and proceduresTamper and Ballast Regulator Operators Requirements: * Able to produce a driver’s abstract • Maintain current railway credentials including: CROR and TIGS * Hold a current E-rail certification or able to pass e-Railsafe Canada workforce compliance system * First Aid and WHIMIS are assets * Able to demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised as well as in teams * Able to work varying work shift rotations and hours including 10&4 or 21&7 rotations * Working knowledge of basic computer skills * Able to work in various weather conditions all year round (hot & cold) * Ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations as required * Maintain Cariboo safety guidelines & policies at all times * Ability to regularly lift objects up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift objects up to 100lbsThis position is considered a safety sensitive position; all new hires will be required to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, along with a criminal background check.
