The Royal Warwickshire Regiment of the British Army was raised in 1673 by Sir Walter Vane. In 1685 the unit was designated the 6th Regiment of Foot. To aid recruiting, each infantry unit was linked with a county in 1782 and they became the 6th (1st Warwickshire) Regiment. In 1832, the 6th became a Royal Regiment and its title was changed to the Royal (1st) Warwickshire Regiment, then became the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in 1881.
