Le Régiment de la Chaudière originated in Saint-Anselme, Quebec in 1869, when The Provisional Battalion of "Dorchester" was authorized to be formed. It was redesignated the 92nd "Dorchester" Battalion of Infantry in 1885. In 1899, it was amalgamated with the 23rd "Beauce" Battalion of Infantry. It was redesignated 92nd Dorchester Regiment in 1900, then Le Régiment de Dorchester in 1920, then The Beauce Regiment, then Le Régiment de Beauce in 1921. It changed to Le Régiment de Dorchester et Beauce in 1932, then in 1936 was amalgamated with the 5th Machine Gun Battalion, CMGC and redesignated Le Régiment de la Chaudière (Mitrailleuses). It was redesignated 2nd (Reserve) Battalion, Le Régiment de la Chaudière (Mitrailleuses) in 1940, then 2nd (Reserve) Battalion, Le Régiment de la Chaudière in 1941.
