$200 · Revolver Rebel
The Revolver Rebel was a competitor for the Rega 2 back in the day. I picked this one up in Edmonton as it had a very good cartridge mounted in the arm.
Once I had that I purchased a new belt and a replacement Audio Technica Cartridge for the Rebel and put it in my secondary system. There it stayed for many month, as I experimented with different tables it would leave but then it would come back.
Designed and sold as a complete package it came with an arm designed for the unit and an Audio Technica cartridge. It's a great little deck and if your're getting back into vinyl or just starting out the Rebel will offer you a lot of playback for the money.
The Revolver turntable features a split plinth cut from MDF sheet the two halves isolated from each other to reduce noise transmission
The lightweight (1kg) platter is also cut of MDF and has a rubber mat. There is a little rubber Pig as they called it that sits on the spindle and helps hold the record. Or so they say.. but it has one.
Drive is an AC synchronous motor with manual speed change by moving the belt up or down on the pulley. .
Due to the design arm choice is limited by the cut out provided by the factory. That being said the high end cartridge worked well in the arm according to the previous owner.
The RCA jacks on the tonearm cable have been upgraded as well.
I've finally settled on two turntables and the Rebel isn't getting much use. I hope it finds a home that will appreciate it's enjoyable sound.
